H.E. Mrs. Jeannette Kagame is a devoted First Lady, mother and advocate for the uplifting of vulnerable communities in Rwanda. In her years as First Lady, H.E. Mrs. Jeannette Kagame has invested in personifying the professional merit, strong family values, and social grace an empowered woman should aim for.
She is the patron of the SOS Children’s Village – Rwanda, and Chairperson of Unity Club, which strives towards social cohesion and of the long-term development goals for Rwanda.
The First Lady also chairs the Imbuto Foundation, which grew from a rapid and effective response to the spread of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda during and following the Genocide Against the Tutsi, to a holistic model catering to the entire life cycles of diverse beneficiaries.
Her Excellency the First Lady is a founding member of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), which she presided from the years of 2004 to 2006, and sits on the boards of various international organizations catering to the development of Africa. As a co-founder for one of the top Rwandan Schools, H.E. Mrs. Jeannette Kagame has attested to her dedication to equip young Rwandans with the skills they will require to build the Rwanda a whole nation envisions. Her Excellency the First Lady of Rwanda, Madame Jeannette Kagame, has initiated several projects and played a catalyst role to contribute to the improvement of the lives of the most vulnerable communities.
H.E. Mrs. Jeannette Kagame has leveraged her position as First Lady to contribute to the improvement of the lives of demographics particularly susceptible to disease, poverty, low education, malnourishment, GBV, and teen pregnancy.
Apart from her own initiatives under PACFA and later Imbuto Foundation, she strongly raised her voice for advocating to policymakers, development partners, and civil society organizations; for policy review, service provision, and the importance of empowering communities.
